After graduating from Smith College in 1970 with a double major in studio art and zoology I worked as a research assistant, first at the Duke University Primate Center and then at the Rockefeller University Research Center in Millbrook New York, where I met my husband.
I went with him to Berkeley, California where he was a graduate student in ethology (animal behavior) while I worked for a geotechnical consulting company doing graphics and technical illustration. The most interesting project I had was when they set me to Alaska to plot the potential flow of spills from the Alaska Pipeline. I stayed for a winter and took an extension class from the University in dog sledding while I was there.
Ken and I spent half a year in Serengeti, Tanzania on a prize from Rolex Watch Company to study African Wild Dogs. We later separated and I worked as a computer programmer for 20 years.
When I retired I moved to Athens, Georgia for the lower cost of living and have returned to my artistic roots doing ceramic sculpture and etching. I am making plans for another move to Durham, NC to be closer to family. I will be living in a cohousing community that I am working with a group of people to get built. We have a beautiful piece of land and are hoping to be ready to move in by late 2018.
I currently live with an 11-year-old Airedale Terrier named Lola and a 1-year-old Sealyham Terrier named Gimli.
